An Empirical Study on the Development
and the Employment Absorption Capacity of Modern Service Industry

Abstract： Employing relevant data from 1991 to 2012， the article empirically analyzed the relationship between the development of modern service industry and its employment absorption capacity by using regression analysis method and difference method of employment elasticity， structure deviation degree. The result shows that modern service industry in China is growing rapidly and it has strong ability to absorb employment. Every 1% increase in value-added of modern service industry brings an increase in number of employed persons at roughly 0.1443%. The value-added of modern service industry as a share of GDP and the personnel number of modern service industry as a share of total number of employed persons are comparatively low. The employment services among industries have different capacities to absorb employment. The financial intermediation， real estate， computer service and software industry have the highest employment absorption capacity. Based on the research， the article proposed some reasonable suggestions in the aspect of how to realize the coordinated development between modern service industry and employment growth.
